The History of Goldendoodles
The original Goldendoodle was a hybrid cross of a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. The exact date of conception is still debated, but they were inspired by the wildly popular Labradoodle and have been evolving since the late 1990’s. The breed’s success is fueled by the desire of those who loved the family friendly temperament of the Golden Retriever, but detested the amount of hair left behind and the allergy issues it presented. Because of the qualities, Goldendoodles are some of the best medium size dogs that don’t shed.
In recent years, Goldendoodles have become among one of the most popular designer dogs for families and individuals.
Goldendoodle Puppies: Sizes, Colors, and Generations
Available Sizes
There are many different sizes of Goldendoodles, from miniature to giant pups, the most popular one being the medium Goldendoodle, which is typically 17-21 inches tall and weighs 36-50 pounds. Breeders breed Goldendoodle puppies of different sizes by crossbreeding Poodles and Golden Retrievers, also of different sizes. While the sizes vary, the desired personalities and characteristics of the dogs remain intact.
Goldendoodles are bred in four sizes:
- Petite: weighing 25 lbs or less, with a height below 14 inches
- Miniature: weighing 26-35 lbs, with a height between 14-17 inches
- Medium: weighing 36-50 lbs, with a height between 17-21 inches
- Standard: weighing 51 lbs or more, with a height over 21 inches
At Parti Goldendoodle, we breed medium size Goldendoodle puppies.
Goldendoodle Puppy Colors and Curls
The coat of these adorable Goldendoodle puppies can come in various colors. These colors are inherited from their parents. While the golden color comes from the Golden Retriever parents, other colors are inherited from the Poodle parent. Goldendoodle puppies can have coats in the shades of cream, apricot, orange, gray, black, dark brown, or yellow. Brown and white or black and white Goldendoodle puppies are some of the most popular parti Goldendoodle puppies.
A Goldendoodle that is parti colored has 50 percent white and has other color patches. Merle refers to a varied coat pattern, while Phantom patterns are known by the unique markings on the chest, back legs, stomach, and above the eyes. Brindle patterns are identified by stripes of different widths and colors.
The coat type also varies between straight, curled, or wavy. Goldendoodle puppies with tightly curled or wiry coats shed less fur and hold the coat better compared to straight-coated dogs. As dander tends to accumulate in the dog’s fur, those who have allergies experience fewer symptoms with these low-shedding Goldendoodle breeds.
Generations: F1 or F1B Goldendoodles
The Goldendoodles we breed at Parti Goldendoodle are first-generation or F1 and F1B Goldendoodles. F1 Goldendoodle puppies inherit 50 percent of their genes from each purebred parent (Poodle and Golden Retriever). The other categories include:
- F1B: F1 Goldendoodle with Purebred Poodle
- F2: Goldendoodle (F1) with Goldendoodle (F1)
- Multigen: F1B or multigenerational Goldendoodle or Poodle with F1 Goldendoodle
